Lake Amador Trout Adventure

Kristy Carpentier and her husband Mike are avid anglers residing here in Northern California. They recently traveled to Lake Amador and enjoyed great trout action. Enjoy Kristy’s account of the trip and her ph otos! Up at 4am and my husband Mike and I met our good friend Chris at the Lake Amador launch at 7am. I was so sorry that Iya (Chris's wife) and my bestie couldn't make it. Miss you! The lake is very low but I have seen it worse. The dock sits out of the water. Launching alone may be tricky. I suppose you could tie off to the dock if you don't mind getting muddy. We opted to have me launch Mike and Chris and then walked over to the real docks. We trolled all the way to the back end of the lake without a bu mp. Jackson creek arm is where we decided to try some bait fishing. Our first spot in only about four feet of water produced one fish. After seeing so many fish jumping about 100 feet away and in about 12 ft of water we moved and it was on. In fact we neve r left this shore spot all day. We remained in the boat on shore as it was way too boggy to step out. We caught 11 fish total from 14 to 17 inches. All of them were fat and feisty. We lost maybe twice as many. The fish were clean with pink meat. The damag e was done using Power Eggs, (white and or pink) with and without brown or white Power Worms, chartreuse and rainbow power bait. A couple on Power Eggs/night crawlers combo too. We used bloody tuna, garlic and trout scent Pro - Cure on our baits. The weather was amazing! I have been waiting for cool mornings and pleasant afternoons. I’ve had enough boiling in the boat. Hello winter, I love you! We only saw about five boats on the water all day. That was super nice! We left about 3:30 and got home to Concord j ust as it was getting dark. Still going to try a couple more salmon trips but this was a great recon mission to see what was happening at Amador. This may be a very good year. Lets hope for a bunch of rain though to fill her up. Thanks for a good time Chri s and Lake Amador!
