What is working right now

Striped bass fishing on the Feather and Sacramento Rivers is slow to medium right now. Capt. Wes Hoskin reports the Feather is slow despite good clarity, while the Sacramento is fishing medium with water warming to around 58 degrees. The most consistent bite is minnow fishing on anchor along sand bars in 10 to 12 feet of water. Trolling plugs is producing good days and bad days.

How is Feather River striper fishing right now?

Slow. The Feather is fishing slow even though water clarity is good, and the water is a little cooler than the Sacramento, which is normal for this time of year. Nothing is red hot on either river at the moment.

How does the Sacramento River compare?

The Sacramento is fishing medium. The water is a little dirtier than the Feather and a little warmer, up around 58 degrees. Flows have been dropping on the Sacramento, which can make things tougher.

What is the best striper technique right now?

Minnow fishing is producing the most fish. The guys having the most success are sitting on anchor and on picks, mainly working sand bars and similar structure in 10 to 12 feet of water. Some anglers trolling plugs in the afternoon are getting good days and bad days.

What is the striper outlook?

It is pretty inconsistent for this time of year. No big schools or pods are showing up on the graph yet, and the dropping Sacramento flows are not helping. Expect a mix of results until the bite settles in.
