Lake Berryessa is on fire, with limits of kokanee, kings, and trout by 10 a.m. from 20 to 70 feet on Catch America Dodgers and T-Pexes plus Chrome Killer Corn. Collins Lake is excellent 22 to 27 feet for rainbows and lightning trout to 8 pounds. Shasta kokanee are 35 to 40 feet, kings 55 to 65. Bridgeport and Twin Lakes are strong on the Trigger Spoon.

How is Lake Berryessa fishing this week?

On fire. Capt. Nate Kelsch had limits of kokanee, plus trout and crappie, by 10 a.m. Fish are 20 to 70 feet down, so trust your graph and chase marks. He is running Catch America Dodgers paired with T-Pexes, plus corn cured in Chrome Killer Corn with tuna oil and dye. It is producing every species in the lake.

How is Collins Lake fishing?

Excellent for a mix of rainbows and lightning trout up to 8 pounds. Capt. Cal Kellogg reports fish 22 to 27 feet deep. Pink is working, and he will be pulling spoons, soft plastics, and threaded crawlers 20 to 30 feet down as the spoon bite starts to speed up for the season.

How is Don Pedro fishing?

Very good. Capt. Monte Smith had 10 rainbows and 5 salmon, a nice mix of kokanee and kings. Fish are stacked 50 to 80 feet down where the temperature breaks. He ran Uncle Larry's spinners in purple and Catch America T-Pexes in pink and purple.

How are Shasta kokanee and kings?

Very good for kokanee, fair to good for kings. Capt. Jeff Goodwin has kokanee 35 to 40 feet and kings 55 to 65 feet, with one king from 90 feet. The surface hit 70 degrees, which will push fish and shad deeper and improve the seam.

What is working in the Eastern Sierra?

Capt. Wes Hoskin reports phenomenal fishing on Bridgeport Reservoir and Upper Twin Lakes. Bridgeport is best on the Frankenstein Trigger Spoon run clean. Upper Twin gave up quality rainbows on the bubblegum Trix Worm with an action disc and a gold Trigger Spoon.

What is happening at Lake Almanor?

Capt. Bryan Roccucci reports a consistent, fast-paced bite for rainbows and a few browns. He is running Junior Optimizers and Trigger Spoons 15 to 25 feet down at 2.75 to 3.5 miles per hour, in colors from blue and silver to bright orange and copper, scented with Brown Town Scent.

What technique is working for Sacramento River king salmon?Back-bouncing Brad's KillerFish KF15 and KF16 plugs on the bottom. Jeff runs 10 ounces of weight to reach bottom in the deep water, with 12 to 18 inch droppers and about a 48 inch leader. The lead gets the plugs down where the fish hold since they will not dive that deep alone. How do you wrap plugs for Sacramento River salmon?Double-wrap the plug with fresh sardine and a piece of wild-caught prawn. Jeff also wraps tuna and squid. Start with a loose wrap that keeps the hooks free so you do not tie them to the plug body, then add a couple of wraps on top. More bait draws more bites as long as it does not kill the action. How do you tune a Brad's KillerFish plug?Wrapping bait shifts the center of gravity, so a plug that ran straight can start leaning one way. The fix is the eye: if the plug swims to the right, turn the eye to the left. Test it beside the boat until it dives straight and dances side to side. Out of tune plugs will not get bit. What does massaging the plug mean?It means keeping continuous action on the plug so it never sits dead on the bottom. Pull up on the rod to make the plug dart to one side, then drop the tip so it flutters back. Salmon often hit on that flutter, so be ready for a hard, full-on strike that takes line right away. What is the guide's outlook for the Barge Hole?Jeff says the area is about 2 to 3 weeks out from really good fishing. August, September, and October are the prime months, and a late fall run from November through the end of December produces some of the biggest fish of the season. We're running 12 to 18-inch droppers, and then about a 48-inch leader. What is working right now Northwest Oregon's July focus is offshore ocean coho with Chinook mixed in, running 1 to 7 miles out with flashers, hoochies, and various lures and baits. Capt. David Johnson still has late spring Chinook in Tillamook Bay as a wind backup. Coastal cutthroat, catch-and-release sturgeon on the Columbia, and halibut round it out, with albacore tuna still about 100 miles out. What is biting in Northwest Oregon right now?Ocean coho with some Chinook mixed in is the main focus, fished 1 to 7 miles offshore. Capt. David Johnson is also still catching late spring Chinook out of Tillamook Bay. Coastal cutthroat, halibut, and catch-and-release sturgeon on the Columbia are all available too.
