Guide’s Tips & Notes

Advice for This Week
Switch to slow-trolling techniques rather than high-speed trolling during warm conditions. Concentrate efforts on the east shore from the dam to Big Springs, including Hamilton Branch and areas east of the peninsula. Target depths of 35–45 feet where fish are holding.
Changes We’re Seeing
Hex hatch is winding down, with fish starting to transition back to feeding on pond smelt in deeper waters. Water temperatures are running warmer than earlier in the season.
Predictions for Next Week
A cooling trend in the weather should bring temperatures back to more seasonal averages, which could improve fishing conditions and fish activity.

Recommended Gear for This Trip

Tube Flies - Trout & Salmon Trolling Flies - 2 Pack

Regular price $8.50 USD
Sale price $8.50 USD Regular price

Catch America Tube Flies trace their design heritage to post-WWII fly tying traditions, and they’ve earned their place in the trout and salmon trolling category through decades of consistent production. The tube design allows the fly to slide up the leader during a fight, preventing the fish from using the fly as leverage to throw the hook, a critical advantage when landing larger rainbow trout and landlocked salmon. Their flowing, multi-fiber construction produces a natural, breathing action at all trolling speeds. Available in 6 proven color patterns.

Goomba Garlic by Bryan Roccucci

Regular price $9.95 USD
Sale price $9.95 USD Regular price

Garlic has been a proven fish attractant for generations, and Goomba Garlic takes that classic ingredient and builds a premium formula around it that works on kokanee, rainbow trout, and landlocked salmon. I developed this formula based on what I’ve seen work consistently on Lake Almanor, one of Northern California’s most demanding trout fisheries. The garlic base is enhanced with amino acids and feeding stimulants that amplify the strike trigger beyond what plain garlic provides. Apply it to soft baits, flies, or dodgers and you’ll put more fish in the boat.

Brown Town Scent by Bryan Roccucci

Sale price $9.95 USD Regular price

Brown trout are one of the most challenging fish in freshwater: spooky, selective, and quick to reject anything that doesn’t feel or smell exactly right. I developed Brown Town specifically to give you an edge on browns, using a premium fish attractant formula that matches the forage profile brown trout key on in California’s high-elevation lakes and reservoirs. Apply it to flies, soft baits, or bait and you’ll notice fish committing faster and holding longer. The difference between a fish that follows and a fish that bites. If browns are your target, Brown Town belongs in your kit.
