Shasta Lake brown trout are chewing. Capt. Jeff Goodwin spent the week on Shasta with the browns really good, rainbows still slow, and a few kings mixed in. He runs Optimizer spoons or rolled anchovies and shad in the top 15 feet at 2.5 to 3 mph. The water is warming and the bite is following right behind it.

What is biting at Shasta Lake right now?

Brown trout, and they are really good. Rainbow trout are still a little slow, with a few king salmon coming here and there.

What lures work best at Shasta Lake?

Optimizer spoons, or rolled anchovies and shad, are the top producers.

Concentrate on the top 15 feet of the column, though a few bites come deeper. Troll about 2.5 to 3 mph.

From the report (Capt. Jeff Goodwin): We spent the whole week on Shasta Lake and the brown fishing is really good. Rainbow trout fishing still a little slow, we are picking up a few king salmon here and there, but primarily brown trout. Best trolling techniques, Optimizer spoons or rolled anchovies or shad. We're concentrating on the top 15 feet of the water column. Troll speed is going to be about two and a half to three miles per hour.
