What is working right now

The Truckee River is pretty much firing. Water temperatures are consistently in the 50s and there is a mix of caddis, stoneflies, blue winged olives, March browns, and the first PMDs of the season. Fish are keying on nymphs. Fish 4X tippet, and hopper dropper, indicator, and Euro nymphing rigs are all producing across the whole river.

How is the Truckee River fishing right now?

It is pretty much firing. It is that time of year, and while it may not be as good as it gets, it is close. Water temperatures are consistently getting into the 50s.

What bugs are hatching on the Truckee?

A mix of everything. Caddis, mostly tan, plus stoneflies, some blue winged olives, March brown mayflies, and the first PMDs of the season. There are also small hoppers and, as the river warms, carpenter ants in several sizes from size 16 and up.

What techniques are working on the Truckee River?

Fish are concentrating on the nymphs. Hopper dropper with the dropper a couple feet below the dry, indicator nymphing with split shot, and Euro nymphing have all been kicking out fish. Size 18 blue winged olives have been a go-to in the little Truckee.

Where are the fish and how should you tip?

Fish are spread out and moving into fast water, and the whole river is open for business from now through summer, which evens out angler pressure. Anglers are fishing mostly 4X, with 3X an option in the canyon. If you find spawning fish on the reds, leave them alone.
