About this product
Cal's Leadcore Trolling Rod is designed from the blank up for the unique mechanical demands of multi-color leadcore trolling, a discipline that punishes rods built for other techniques. The 6'6" two-piece medium action HD composite glass blank absorbs the shock of strikes at speed without sacrificing the tip sensitivity needed to detect bottom changes and subtle bites at depth, and it stays light enough to fish comfortably across a full day on the water. Stainless steel guide frames with aluminum oxide inserts handle leadcore line's abrasion without wear-through, and the ergonomic handle length balances naturally in a rod holder or fighting grip. Pairs perfectly with the Catch America Rigged Hybrid Leadcore Reel for a complete lead core rod and reel combo.
Questions and answers
What is Cal's Leadcore Trolling Rod built for?
This rod is designed for trolling leadcore line for trout, kokanee, and landlocked salmon. Max from Catch America fished it at Shaver Lake and landed a personal-best 4.5 pound rainbow. The action loads on the troll and cushions headshakes so fish stay pinned on light leaders.
How do I fish leadcore with this rod?
Let out leadcore in colors to set your depth, since each color sinks the lure deeper. At Shaver Lake, Max ran one, two, and three colors to spread a shallow band and find trout holding 5 to 15 feet down. Troll a dodger and spinner behind it.
How deep does leadcore reach on this rod?
Depth depends on how many colors you release. A hybrid leadcore setup like this works the top 15 feet or so, ideal when trout push shallow in cool water. Max spread his lures across one to three colors at Shaver Lake to cover fish sitting near the surface.
What can I catch with Cal's Leadcore Trolling Rod?
It handles trout, kokanee, and landlocked salmon on the troll. Max fished it through winter at Shaver Lake for rainbows up to a personal-best 4.5 pounds, running Uncle Larry's Double Trouble spinners and hoochies scented with WD80. The forgiving tip protects light leaders during the fight.
What do I run behind Cal's Leadcore Trolling Rod?
Pair it with the UV Kokanee & Trout Dodger. Max fished this rod with a dodger and Uncle Larry's spinners at Shaver Lake, slow trolling for rainbows. Set the dodger a couple feet ahead of a scented spinner or hoochie, then let leadcore carry the rig to depth.
4/13/26, winds+10/chop, Mist driving in but Cal's yellow lead core rods never failed me today. Limits kept 3 hefty ones & released two as Cal would say "grow some for me to catch you again" Catch America gear & videos are my go to for fishing. Fish On
Pair of Lassen rainbow trout paired with Cal's Lead core rods. Maiden voyage for my 2cd rod, did not fail me. You would never guess what lure landed these, both on a yellow gold Rapala Rattle traps. 2 hrs of trout trix minnows with no luck, lucky I changed it up. Fish On
Maiden voyage today, lipped thru the nose, Cal's lead core pole did not let me down, landed two & my other pole got skunk, maybe a second Cal's lead core pole ?
Bought 2 got 1 free, figured, what would I need 3 of these rods for? These things have absolutely slayed the trout so far at the end of summer/early fall. Cal got me all set up trolling flies on these along with spoons and soft plastics. Everything has produced. 6’6” is perfect for my 16’ boat, does well in the tight quarters. Flex is just right, do yourself a favor and get 3 of these. Out produced the downrigger 5:1 so far and alot less finicky.
Fished with Cal at Collins Lake using his lead core rods. We landed 10 big, beautiful Trout. When I got home, I ordered a total of 6 of his lead core rods. I highly recommend them
I haven't had a chance to use it yet,
Been working on the boat .
I like the parabolic bend this rod has.
I have the rod rod paired with a piscifun chaos pro reel ( no counter ) and it has some 20 lb mono babacking and 5 colors of 18 lb. Leaded line and 20' of 20 lb. Mono , I'll be using light Sutton 44 spoons and u 29 flatfish
I also kind of missed the earlier spring action but the boat needed it .
Pole is nice ! I'm happy with it , but for the price I think shipping should have been free. It said shipping was free over a certain amount . It's misleading. Looking forward to using it soon.
Not yet in use, waiting for spring trolling top five feet, always wanted a lead core rod for trolling behind the boat, thank you for setup ready to go. And the lures to use also.
I bought the package as a gift for 2 people. When I opened the one box all the flies and spoons were in it. The other box had the soft plastics. I had to unpake everything and repack it. Had I not opened it I would have been pretty upset because the 2 people live 200 miles apart.
Great for a Kayak fisherman like myself. The perfect action and length for the kayak. Caught two beautiful Rainbows out of Lake Folsom the first time out with it.
I have one of your trolling rods already. I emailed you 3 times about my new order and you didn't respond to me. I sent my order back cause I only wanted one rod not 2. I don't know if you will respond to my email or not. Order
