Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Pompano Surf Rig built for?

It is a ready-to-fish surf rig dialed in for pompano and other surf species. Built on 20 lb fluorocarbon, it stays stealthy in clear water while standing up to hard-charging fish and rough structure. Tie it to your main line, add a weight, and fish.

What hooks and components does it use?

It carries two #2 octopus hooks with small floats set just below them. Up top is a size 5 Pucci rolling swivel for tangle-free casts, and the bottom uses a size 7 Eagle Claw snap swivel for fast weight changes and solid holding power.

Why are there floats on the rig?

The floats sit right under the hooks and lift your bait off the sand. That keeps sand crabs and other baits suspended just above the bottom, holding them in the strike zone where pompano cruise and feed instead of letting them bury or wash flat in the surf.

What weight should I use with it?

It fishes best with a 1 oz Sputnik weight, which digs in and holds position in moving surf. The weight is not included. You can also run pyramid or pancake weights up to about 5 ounces, sizing up as the surf and current get heavier.

What line is it tied with?

It is built on 20 lb fluorocarbon. That gives you near-invisible presentation in clear surf water plus the abrasion resistance to handle sand, shell, and the hard runs of a hooked pompano. The fluorocarbon also resists chafing against the swivels and hardware under load.
