The T-Pex (also searched as TPex or T Pex) is a purpose-built inline trolling lure engineered specifically for the slow-troll speeds that kokanee and rainbow trout demand, the 1.0 to 1.8 mph range where standard spoons lose their action or spin out entirely. 10 minutes on first go with the Tpex. Had 5 more drive bys but didn’t hook up on it. May try larger hooks in future.
Yesterday was the first day running the T-Pex lure and I landed three kokes on it. Pound for pound my biggest limit, several kokes at 17” and one at 18”.

This lure is on fire at Lake Berryessa!! I modified the lure’s hook arrangement to have an orange hook on top with bottom hook being a dark color. Most fish are hammering the top (orange) hook.
The Gold Orange Black Dot T-Pex is a Kokanee slayer. Part of Big Nates Ultimate Kokanee Kit, it lives up to the name. One of my favorite go to combo pieces.

I finally pull these out two weeks ago 1/14/25 with a nightcrawler & nothing but Fish On, a must have in tackle box. Couldn't get it hit with my trout Trix after a couple of hours, switch over to orange T-Pex lure trolling with Cals lead core yellow poles, these rods put fish in the boat. Don't give up. Love the tpexs, only thing is I do wish they came on heavier mono leaders as I break leaders all the time.

The lure action is great and the fish love it! However, I have had multiple leaders break after only a couple hookups. The leaders are not breaking on a knot or near the lure either, but snapping right in the middle.
this is a very successful lure for catching trout. It seems I never go home without my limit.

I went to Berryessa two days ago. This was the hot lure. I caught a rainbow trout, huge kokanee, and a huge small mouth bass all at 62 feet on the wire behind a 6" gold dodger. The bite was tough but a beautiful day on the lake with minimal wind, beats a day on the couch. wish you guys would learn how to keep these in stock. I have to bridge buy just so I do not run short when I take my boys fishing..

How fast should I troll the T-Pex?
Troll the T-Pex at 1.2 to 1.5 mph for its best action. Watch your rod tip for a steady pulsing motion, which means the lure is rolling right. If the action looks off, adjust your speed or leader length to fine-tune it.
How do I rig the T-Pex behind a dodger?
Run a 12 to 30 inch leader between your dodger and the T-Pex, using a shorter leader with larger dodgers and a longer one with smaller dodgers. Tie it with a strong knot like an improved clinch or Palomar. Replace the leader after every 5 fish.
What depth should I fish the T-Pex?
Use lead core line, downriggers, or inline weights to reach the fish. The T-Pex produces from about 10 to 60 feet deep. On Lake Berryessa our guides worked the dodger-and-T-Pex setup as deep as 45 to 100 feet when kokanee were holding low.
What color T-Pex should I choose?
The T-Pex comes in 12 colors including Pink Purple Black Dot, 24k Gold, Fluorescent Orange, and Watermelon. Pinks and oranges are strong kokanee starters, with gold and natural tones for clearer water. Carry a spread and switch colors until you find the day's producer.
What do I run with the T-Pex?
The 6-inch offset dodger is its best partner. Run the dodger ahead of the T-Pex on a 12 to 30 inch leader and tip the hooks with Chrome Killer Corn. This dodger, lure, and corn combination is our guides' number one kokanee producer on lakes like Berryessa.
Can I run the T-Pex without a dodger?
Yes. The T-Pex is built to fish behind a dodger for extra attraction or run clean for a more natural presentation. Running clean shines when fish are spooky or the water is clear. Just tie direct to your leader and troll at 1.2 to 1.5 mph.
