Overview
Built to trigger. Designed to dominate.
When trout and salmon are finicky, the Trigger Spoon by Catch America is the weapon of choice for anglers who demand performance, quality, and results. Its tight, high-frequency wobble perfectly mimics threadfin shad and pond smelt, two of the most sought-after forage species in lowland lakes. This deadly fluttering action drives fish to strike, even in challenging conditions.
At 2 1/4 inches long and ½ inch wide, the Trigger Spoon is the perfect balance of small enough for aggressive feeders yet large enough to tempt trophy-sized predators. Designed to perform at optimal trolling speeds between 2.3 and 3 MPH, it maintains its erratic, fish-triggering action at a variety of depths.
What makes Catch America’s spoons different?Real precious metal finishes. Unlike standard chrome-plated or polished brass lures, Trigger Spoons are plated with genuine silver, copper, and 24K gold—metals proven to create superior flash and attraction in all water conditions. This premium plating not only outperforms inferior coatings but also ensures long-lasting durability for seasons of hardcore fishing.
Each color and finish in the Trigger Spoon lineup has been hand-selected by Cal Kellogg, Catch America’s senior lure designer. With 30+ years of on-the-water experience, Cal has developed a lineup that consistently puts fish in the net across varying depths, light conditions, and water clarities.

Questions and answers
What is the Trigger Spoon best for?
The Trigger Spoon is a 2.25 inch spoon for trout and landlocked salmon. Its tight, high-frequency wobble mimics threadfin shad and pond smelt, the top forage in lowland lakes. Fast-trolled or cast, it triggers reaction strikes even when fish are finicky.
How fast should I troll the Trigger Spoon?
The Trigger Spoon is a fast-troll spoon, designed to run between 2.3 and 3 mph while holding its tight wobble. Use lead core line, downriggers, or snap weights to reach the strike zone. Small speed changes can trigger reaction strikes from following fish.
What color Trigger Spoon should I use?
Match the finish to the light and water. Run silver in clear water, copper in tannic or stained water, and gold in low light. Trigger Spoons are plated with genuine silver, copper, and 24k gold for flash that standard chrome cannot match.
Can you cast the Trigger Spoon or only troll it?
You can do both. The Trigger Spoon trolls, jigs, and casts from shore. Guide Cal Kellogg fan-casts the smaller Junior Trigger Spoon over schools of fish, counting it down to find the feeding depth before starting his retrieve. Let it sink, then vary your speed.
Who designed the Trigger Spoon?
The Trigger Spoon lineup was designed by Cal Kellogg, Catch America's senior lure designer, drawing on more than 30 years on the water. He hand-selected every color and finish to put fish in the net across changing depths, light, and water clarity.
What do I pair with the Trigger Spoon?
On the same trip our guides round out the trout box with Catch America Trix Minnows, a soft bait that shines when fish want a slower, natural presentation. Run the Trigger Spoon fast for reaction bites, then switch to Trix Minnows when the bite softens.
Caught this nice 2 lbs rainbow trout first thing this morning. I had been trolling for 10 minutes. Was trolling at 2.5 MPH with 4 colors of lead core line.
I started pulling trigger spoons a couple years ago and this year in particular I started really catching trout and salmon on them and was really impressed, they have become my number one spoon in my assortment and I have caught Rainbows, Browns, Brook trout, Splake, and landlocked salmon on them over hear in Maine. I'm super impressed with the action as well as that they are painted and really like that they come with siwash hooks, I loose less fish and if I'm practicing catch and release I like how they prevent damaging the fish. Great Job Kal Kellogg and the Catch America crew!
Im a commercial salmon fisherman and i used bolth the silver and gold bolth caught king salmon in the mid to upper teens i just put a stronger hook and added a swivel to the other end and caught fish
This chartreuse & gold spoon out caught every other lure on the boat our last trip out. Couldn't keep the trout & salmon off it. We caught fish with every spoon from Nates Fall/Winter kit, but this one outshined them all on this trip.
As a guide, Catch America Trout Trix worms and Trigger Minnows are absolutely a part of my arsenal...and I'm not a paid endorser. Their stuff just works, especially the Trout Trix line with wiggle discs. They are an everyday part of my tackle box and while I don't always use them, I DO come back to them again and again. Seriously. Good products.
Very pleased with the lures I purchase and thanks to Max for answering my questions and helping me out!! Highly recommend this company!!! Thanks again!!
I have purchased about 50 Trigger and Speed spoons and they are excellent. They have super action at various trolling speeds. They present well in the water, and they are very good quality products.
The lures looked great the quality of the plating has improved compared to my old ones . Also the split rings on the nose of the lures are a good improvement.
I’ve bought more trigger spoons lately than any other style because they just flat out catch fish! My standards are simple…catch fish, win a spot in my spoon rotation. I carry 10 rods in my boat and currently 8 of them have trigger spoons tied on!
