Frequently Asked Questions

What is the X-Pex best for?

The X-Pex is a 1.75 inch trolling lure built for kokanee and trout. It is the larger sibling of the T-Pex, run slow behind a dodger. Our guides call it a top kokanee producer, tipped with corn and worked at the depth the fish are holding.

How do you fish the X-Pex for kokanee?

Slow-troll it behind a 6-inch offset dodger on a short leader, tipped with Chrome Killer Corn on the hooks. Match your depth to where the kokanee are marking. On Lake Berryessa our guides ran this setup from 45 to 100 feet deep.

What color X-Pex should I run?

The X-Pex comes in 12 colors, from Watermelon and 24k Gold to Fluorescent Pink and The Kavorkian. Bright pinks and oranges are proven kokanee starters, with gold and natural tones for clearer water. Carry a few and switch until the fish tell you what they want.

What is the difference between the X-Pex and the T-Pex?

Both are Catch America kokanee and trout trolling lures with the same rolling action. The T-Pex is 1 inch and the X-Pex is 1.75 inch. Run the larger X-Pex when you want a bigger profile or more attraction, and the T-Pex when fish want something smaller.

What do I run with the X-Pex?

Pair it with a Catch America 6-inch offset dodger ahead of the lure for flash and action, then tip the hooks with Chrome Killer Corn. Our guides run this dodger-and-lure combination as their number one kokanee setup all season long.

Is the X-Pex good for trout too?

Yes. The X-Pex is designed for both kokanee and trout. Trolled behind a dodger or run clean, its rolling action draws rainbows as well as kokanee. Adjust your depth and speed to the species you are targeting and the water you are fishing.
